動画配信で映画「恋愛小説家」を見た。

28年ぶりに見てみる。
ジェームズ・L・ブルックスという監督は
「愛と追憶の日々」
「ビッグ（1988）」
「ザ・エージェント」
「ザ・シンプソンズ MOVIE」等を撮っている。
As Good As It Getsというタイトルは、
「これ以上はない最善」という意味。
最高や完璧ではなく最善であること。
マンハッタンに暮らす売れっ子小説家のメルヴィンは、
彼の著作とは異なり性格は常に悪意に満ちている。
彼は自己中心的で差別的な人間である。
その一方、強迫性障害がある。
鍵の開閉を何回も確認する、
敷石のへりを踏むことを嫌うなど日常生活における強いこだわりに悩まされている。
ある種の精神疾患であるのは間違いないだろう。
行きつけのレストランでは勝手に自分のテーブルを決め、
持参した使い捨てのナイフとフォークを使っており、
高圧的である事もあり、
ほとんどのウェイトレスからは嫌われている。
ウェイトレスのキャロルにだけは素直になり、
給仕もキャロルからしか受け付けない。
マンションの隣人である画家のサイモンとは犬猿の仲で、
サイモンがゲイであることをいつも揶揄している。
メルヴィンはキャロルと何度もいい感じになるのだが、
そのたびに余計なことを言ってしまい、
キャロルの機嫌をそこねてしまう。
見ていてイライラする。
1997年にはこんな言葉はなかったかもしれないが、
ADHD（注意欠如多動症）で間違いないと思う。
ラストシーンでなんとか上手くいったときはほっとした。
この映画はジャック・ニコルソンとヘレン・ハントが、
共にアカデミー主演男優賞と主演女優賞を受賞した。
いい映画だった。
ヘレン・ハントの魅力が素晴らしい。
満足度は５点満点で５点☆☆☆☆☆です。

I think I saw this in theaters when it first came out.
I’m watching it again for the first time in 28 years.
Director James L. Brooks has directed films such as
*Terms of Endearment*,
*Big* (1988),
*The Agent*,
and *The Simpsons Movie*.
The title *As Good As It Gets*
means “as good as it gets.”
It’s not about being the best or perfect, but simply the best it can be.
Melvin, a best-selling novelist living in Manhattan,
is always full of malice—a stark contrast to the characters in his books.
He is a self-centered and prejudiced man.
At the same time, he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
He is plagued by strong obsessions in his daily life,
such as repeatedly checking whether doors are locked
and refusing to step on the edges of paving stones.
There is no doubt that this is a form of mental illness.
At his favorite restaurant, he arbitrarily chooses his own table
and uses disposable knives and forks he brings from home;
combined with his overbearing attitude,
he is disliked by almost all the waitresses.
He is only ever on good terms with the waitress Carol,
and he’ll only accept service from her.
He’s at loggerheads with Simon, a painter who lives next door,
and he’s always making fun of Simon for being gay.
Melvin often seems to be getting along well with Carol,
but every time, he says something he shouldn’t,
and ends up upsetting her.
It’s frustrating to watch.
The term might not have existed back in 1997,
but I’m pretty sure he has ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder).
I was relieved when things finally worked out in the final scene.
This movie earned Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt
Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
It was a great movie.
Helen Hunt’s charm is wonderful.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5 ☆☆☆☆☆.

虽然1997年可能还没有“ADHD（注意力缺陷多动障碍）”这个词，
但我认为他无疑患有这种疾病。
看到最后一场戏总算圆满收场时，我松了一口气。
这部电影让杰克·尼科尔森和海伦·亨特
共同斩获了奥斯卡最佳男主角奖和最佳女主角奖。
这是一部好电影。
海伦·亨特的魅力令人赞叹。
