It's hard to approach deafness or blindness in the way paralysis was explored in The Diving Bell and Butterfly. How can a film sell if there is no sight or sound to it? Sound of Metal goes in an out of the lead character's head, and to a new realm when cyborg technology takes hold. The film is touching, seeing an authentically portrayed crust punk schooled on community. Also a sad film. Must see!
