I fretted watching this film at first, hardly being a fan of The Pogues or traditional Irish music in general; but I was pleased that this doc not only gave me appreciation for the genre, it was also a rich character study. Shane is a peculiar man with a singular laugh; always paralyzed drunk. In the film's chronicle of the band, he is revealed to be much more of a musical sage than a comic punk.
