From the look of the trailer, Respect might seem easy to write off as another musician's biographical film that if not familiar with the music won't digest well. But the struggle in Franklin's life makes the film a suitable piece for this age. Haunted by a pregnancy in adolescence, she battles an abusive marriage and alcoholism as an adult. It's funereal in tone, but her battle is inspirational.
