So, I’d been thinking like that way, too, for a long time since I watched the film long ago.

However, the other day I realised that might not be Coen brothers’ true intention when I re-watched the film and listened to its short theme in the beginning and in ending of the story, a few days back for the first time in cinema for a long time…

Listen to this, there is no funny or ironical element in this music whatsoever, just sad. It is as if the music is crying for the story. It is shedding tears for the sad destiny of the people who are about to be/have got involved in the pitiful but unforgivable crime.

Now I feel that film is about a total tragedy, and this is a profound masterpiece.

私も昔この映画を観て以来、ずっとそんな風に思っていました。
しかし先日、本作を久しぶりに映画館で再鑑賞し、物語の冒頭とエンディングに流れる短いテーマ曲を聴いたとき、それはコーエン兄弟の本心ではないかもしれないと気づきました..。
聞くと、この音楽には笑いや皮肉の要素は一切なく、ただただ悲しいだけ。まるで音楽が物語のために泣いているかのようです。哀れな、しかし許しがたい犯罪に巻き込まれようとしている／巻き込まれてしまった人々の、悲しい運命に涙を流している。
今私は、この映画は完全な悲劇を描いた深遠な傑作であると感じています。
