ブラインド・ウィリー・マクテル（Blind Willie McTell, 1898年5月5日 - 1959年8月19日）は、アメリカ合衆国のブルース歌手、ギター演奏者Gérard Herzhaft, "BLIND WILLIE McTELL", Encyclopedia of the Blues, Univ of Arkansas Pr, 1992, pp. 230-231. 2021年4月20日閲覧。。マクテルの音楽スタイルはアメリカ東海岸のブルース音楽を基底とするものの、それにとどまるものではなくラグタイムやゴスペルなどの黒人大衆音楽から田舎の白人の民俗音楽や流行歌・ヒット曲までに及ぶ広範な大衆音楽に親和的な面があり、裏声も使う高く濁りのないマクテルの歌声は同時代の白人のカントリーミュージックの歌手ジミー・ロジャーズを想起させるものがあった。また12弦ギターの演奏者としても卓越した技量を持ち、後世のフォーク音楽のギター演奏者によって高く評価されている。
バイオグラフィ
子供時代についてはあまりはっきりしたことがわかっていないが、出生時あるいは非常に幼い頃から目が見えず、点字楽譜の読み書きを修得した。ピードモント台地で流行りだった、シンコペーションの効いた流れるようなフィンガー・スタイルでギターを弾いたが、同時代のギタリストたちとは異なり、12弦ギターを専門的に弾いた。マクテルほど熟達したスライド・ギタリストはラグタイムのブルースマンの中では珍しい。
彼のボーカル・スタイルは多くの場合、スムーズでのんびりとしたテナーで、ミシシッピ・デルタのブルースマン、チャーリー・パットンやミシシッピ・シークスとは対照的である。マクテルはブルース、ラグタイム、宗教音楽、ナンセンス歌などのスタイルで歌った。
ジョージア州トムソン生まれのマクテルは十代前半にギターの奏法を学んだ。彼はすぐにアトランタやオーガスタといったジョージア州の都市を中心に大道芸を始めた。
1927年にビクター・レコードに初録音。ヒット作は出なかったものの、マクテルは1920年代と30年代を通じて様々な名義で多くのレコード会社から発売された。
1940年、民俗学者ジョン・A・ロマックスとルビー・テリル・ローマックスによる米国議会図書館の民謡アーカイブが彼を録音した。
彼は1940年代と50年代を通じてアクティブなままで、しばしば彼の長年の相棒カーリー・ウィーバーとともに、アトランタのストリートで演奏した。さらに2回、彼は録音された。
マクテルの最後の録音は、1956年にアトランタのレコード店の店長が録音した即席のセッションだった。3年後、糖尿病やアルコール使用障害に苦しみながら彼は死んだ。
