This generation's Full Metal Jacket. It could almost be a remake, but interestingly it's an autobiographical tale from the director. Throughout the story, the character finds himself challenged by two friction points: opposition to his homosexuality at home and in uniform, and what it means to be a dedicated Marine. Beyond that there's insight into the harsh discipline needed to become a warrior.
