Among the early MeToo films, Assistant's ambiguities come off as incomplete at times, but at its best it seems that director Kitty Green took her observational and conversational cues from Steve McQueen. One day in the life of a secretary working in a Weinstein cinema house, she obviously isn't working a dream job. The film is soft on passing judgment, a direction I didn't expect it to go.
