A real world Princess Mononoke melodrama set in a mountain village back before electricity that comes off somewhat as an accute portrayal of yesteryear Japan life. Shows some origins of gender roles and social structures, what's even more enjoyable about the film is that its lushly colored cinematography is pleasing to the eye. Obviously you have to watch for the original Dirty Beaches soundtrack.
