The Woman King is the tale of a band of female soldiers in an African city-state at the dusk of the European slave trade. The film's ensemble cast and fight choreography fuse well in this colonial period piece, though its woke heroism may be as historically accurate as The Last Samurai. Viola Davis commands the film like a boss. The costume and set designs make for glorious mid-budget eye candy.
