The Hero is a master of subtext. Rather than each scene being a chain reaction for the next, the moments add up to a fulfilled "self" that effect genuine drama. There's always room for comedy even in sadness, and The Hero does well in mixing your laughter and crying tears. Elliott does great as an American cowboy gone soft in the face of death. A lesson on living life without loose ends.
