I've just watched this masterpiece in a cinema in Yurakucho, Tokyo, and I don't believe it's been nearly 40 years since I got stunned by it when I first watched it as a kid. It must have been Theatre Dia in Ikebukuro.

People say something like Blade Runner affected lots of Si-Fi films and cyberpunk cultures and yes, it's true, but I realised this time that Escape From New York (aka New York 1997 in Japanese) has had an enormous influence over later films in broad arenas and video games, not to mention Japanese manga and anime.

I particularly like the CG-like cool fake computer displays and Snake’s scope, suppressor equipped MAC-10, and, of course, the Cabby, Ernest Borgnine (^.^)v !
