「新しいフォーマットの恐怖The Fear of a New Format」近畿地方のある場所について　新米エヴァンゲリストさんの映画レビュー（感想・評価）

原作は出て（2023）すぐ購入して読んでいた。
面白いなあと、新しいなあと言う印象。
最近ようやく映画になった「箱男」の
原作のフォーマットにも似てるかも
と思った。

で、映画化を受けて文庫版が出るとの事。
結末が変わってるらしいと聞いて読んでみる。
終盤に「！？」となり「あれ？こんなだっけか？」。
単行本を見返す。「だよねえ」。
でもどちらなラストも好み。
映画はどうなってるんだろう？

から映画を観た。

あのままの映像化はありえない。
ただ原作のエッセンスは拾っているので
個人的には結構面白かった。

今の技術だから、映像化たり得た、
表現できたと思った。

同時に文庫版のラストも腑に落ちた。

個人的にはどのラストも好き。
合わない人もいるかもしれないが、
じゃあピッタリってなんやねん
とも思う。

21世紀のホラーであり怪談の傑作だと
思った。

I bought and read the original novel right after it came out in 2023.
My impression was, “Wow, this is interesting… and new.”
It kind of reminded me of the original format of The Box Man, which was recently made into a film.

Then I heard that, following the movie adaptation, a paperback edition was being released.
Supposedly the ending had been changed, so I read it.
Near the end I went, “!?” — Wait, was it like this?
I checked back with the hardcover. “Right, I thought so.”
But honestly, I liked both endings.
I wondered how the movie handled it.

So I went to see the movie.

There was no way they could have filmed it exactly as it was.
Still, it captured the essence of the novel, and I personally found it quite interesting.

I felt that it was only thanks to today’s technology that it could be adapted to film and expressed so well.

At the same time, the paperback’s ending now made sense to me.

Since Sesuji -san also helped write the movie’s screenplay, I imagine it went something like:
Original novel → Screenplay collaboration → Paperback edition

Personally, I like all of the endings.
Some people might not, but then again — what exactly would be the “perfect” ending anyway?

I think it’s a masterpiece of 21st-century horror and ghost storytelling.
