Gothic Film Noir
Girl with the Needle is more audiovisual eye candy than an engaging story. Think a techno music video shot as David Lynch's Elephant Man with the fine black and white compositions of Poland's Ida. Obviously there is some Von Trier influence in there. The pieces don't add to a whole but I may have only thought so because I am not a parent. Who would want to deliver kids into this dark world?
