「Does this movie really deserve the Academy Award for Best Picture?」ANORA アノーラ 詠み人知らずさんの映画レビュー(感想・評価)
Does this movie really deserve the Academy Award for Best Picture?
As many viewers felt, it was unclear why this film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and it also didn't seem like a film that would be talked about for a long time. If the award was unexpected, the following could be considered.
1. A situation occurred where the award could not be given to a strong work.
2. In order to maintain the authority of the selection committee, they do not want to give the award to a replacement work.
3. It has been rumored that the Academy Awards have (some degree of) political considerations for some time.
In this year's selection, a European work dealing with transgender people was effectively left out of the selection. Moreover, it was not because of the evaluation of the content, but because of a problem with the leading actress's comments. It is only unfortunate.
As a result, works that originate from Europe or are based on Europe are at a slight disadvantage. At the opposite end of the spectrum are cheerful American works.
Now, while Cannes is said to be art-oriented, it is actually a film trade fair, while the Academy Awards is the most watched film award in the world. To some extent, we cannot help but think about the social impact. Even if it is a free person who decides, they would want to avoid being biased towards either the Jews or the Palestinians. Also, if possible, they do not want to side with Ukraine and back Russia.
No matter how you look at it, the world-famous singer who is the model for one of the nominees must be of Jewish descent, considering his appearance and creativity. I don't know about his religion. Also, the architect who came to America from Hungary and became active there is probably of Jewish descent. On the other hand, this film features a hopeless Russian wealthy family.
If these elements had crossed the minds of the selection committee, this film would be a strong candidate for the Best Picture award. What a shame.
So, what kind of film is this?
The beginning is vulgar, but even though it was made 18+, its appeal was not conveyed. In the middle, the hopeless "spoiler-dovey son" runs away from his mansion, leaving his new wife behind, and goes around New York's bars, while the butler and his new wife struggle to find him. At the end of the film, the wealthy Russian couple rush to New York on a private jet or charter flight, and things get hectic.
The most troubling thing for me was that the wealthy couple's butler (who is apparently Armenian) and lawyer didn't realize it was from Las Vegas, even though they had seen the marriage certificate.
The only saving graces were the boundless vitality of the main character, Anora, and the modest genuine affection shown to Anora by one of the bodyguards, who seems to be a distant relative of the wealthy couple or something.
However, I would like to see as many of the other films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture as I can.
