As far as I know, the first major film about the eating disorder pica. Hunter is a lower class woman with a tormented backstory who finds herself in a wealthy marriage, and upon pregnancy she resorts to consuming inedible objects. As an unsettling psychological study into the intricacies of interpersonal relationships, it's a rich exercise in showing more than telling. Stylish and well-written.
