Aside from Lord of the Rings, I have always had mixed feelings about Mortsensen's acting style—or at least towards the films he appears in. But his directorial debut is among some of the finest dramas in recent memory. Going along with the actor-turned-auteur trend of building a story around America's homosexual cultural revolution, Mortensen and his actors go places where woke conversation won't.
