You could say in this raw, gritty cop thriller that there are no good guys. It's one of the dark age periods in US history, and alcohol is illegal. Gangs run the country and cops kill on a whim. But the story is good and the stakes are high. The infamous staircase shootout climax with a falling baby carriage is over the top, and it is hard not to laugh if you have seen The Naked Gun movies.
