物語の背景にある原理や法則は
全て明らかにされていない。

だが、その深淵が存在すると思わせる
説得力があった。

今年観たアメリカのホラー映画で
【THE MONKEY ザ・モンキー】
【ロングレッグス】
がある。

で、今回の【WEAPONS ウェポンズ】だ。

私の勝手なイメージだと、
欧米のホラー物は、
その背景にキリスト教の影響があるものが多かった。

しかし、今回の映画を含めて
今年観た先に上げた３本は
それとは無関係の何らかの法則が働いていて
人の力では抗えないという点で共通している。

正直、映画の後半過ぎるまで、
真相は分からず、
観客は登場人物と同じ戸惑いと謎に引っ張られる。

そして、映画は終わりを告げるが、
多くの明らかにならないものが
そのままになって終わる。

登場人物の未来も
ハッキリしないまま
解決せずに【終わる】。

個人的には
最高のホラー映画だった。

The principles and laws underlying the story’s world
are never fully revealed.
Yet the film has the persuasive power to make you feel
that a deep abyss truly exists beneath the surface.

Among the American horror films I watched this year,
there were THE MONKEY and LONGLEGS.
And now, WEAPONS.

In my own preconceived image,
many Western horror films are heavily influenced
by Christianity in their background.

However, these three films—including this one—
share something different:
some kind of law or system that operates independently of religion,
and a sense that it is something human beings cannot resist.

To be honest, until well into the latter half of the film,
the truth remains unclear,
and the audience is drawn along
by the same confusion and mystery as the characters themselves.

Then the film comes to an end,
leaving many things unexplained.

The futures of the characters
remain uncertain,
and nothing is clearly resolved—
it simply ends.

Personally,
I found it to be an outstanding horror film.
