観賞後パンフレットを見て
かろうじてストーリーは追えていた模様。

前半の方の会話劇のところで
何度か寝落ちしてしまう。
英語のヒアリングが出来ないので、
大事な台詞は把握しきれていないと思う。
英語ネイティブの人は
刺さる台詞がたくさんあったんだろう。

映画館での鑑賞で寝落ちするのは
40年以上映画見てきた中で
数えるほどしかない。

あとどれくらいだろう？
と時間を確認したのは初めてだ。
個人的には長く感じてしまった。

予告編とのギャップを感じてしまった。
この日はこの後もう一本観た。
それで寝落ちすれば、
単純に前日の歩き疲れが原因だろう
となるかと思ったが、
残念ながら、そうはならなかった。

ごくごく個人的な印象だが、
使いたい俳優を使った
監督が撮りたいシーンを集めた
それを繋げたように感じてしまった。

私の理解が追いついていなくて
分かっていないだけかもしれない。

ただ一人の頭で考え表現するには
映画という器は大きすぎるのかもな
と思わずにはいられなかった。

After the screening, I looked through the pamphlet and confirmed that, despite dozing off, I had more or less grasped the storyline.

I dozed off a few times during the dialogue-heavy scenes in the first half.
Since I can’t understand spoken English very well, I probably missed a lot of important lines.
I imagine native English speakers caught many lines that really resonated.

In over 40 years of watching films, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve fallen asleep in a theater.
This was the first time I found myself checking the time, wondering, “How much longer is left?”
Personally, it felt long.

There was a noticeable gap between the trailer and the actual film.
I watched another film later that same day — if I had fallen asleep during that one too, I could’ve just said it was because I was tired from walking the day before.
But as it turned out, I stayed wide awake through that second film.

This is purely my personal impression, but it felt like the director had just gathered the actors he wanted to use, shot the scenes he wanted to film, and stitched them together.

Maybe I just didn’t fully understand it.

Still, I couldn’t help but feel that a film might simply be too vast a vessel for one person’s vision to express on their own.
