Cumberbatch is a small fry international businessman who finds himself caught up in the unfolding of the Cuban Missile Crisis in this well-played period piece. It's a spy film led by a non-spy, but the rhythm of the story is far from your typical fish-out-of-water screenplay. Along with the Imitation Game, Cumberbatch shows a knack for tuning the underdogs of history to international recognition.
