Bradley Cooper proves himself a qualified auteur in Maestro, a biopic about the career, marriage, and homosexuality of composer Leonard Bernstein. Produced by both Spielberg and Scorcese, the film looks great and features dialogue authentic to its monochrome era. Every scene a character is holding a cigarette which leads to a dramatic plot point. A lush manifesto on what it is to be an artist.
