Knives Out is a falsetto apology from Johnson for Star Wars 8. It’s an elaborate demonstration of how Johnson operates in the grey zone of acceptability in big wig production check signings. Rian likes to put an elephant in the room and spank it when everybody is pretending it’s not there. It ends up being more heavy as satire than quality, but really, modern directors have been too focused the latter.
