The amount of Catholic-themed horror films churning out of the movie factories is pretty laughable at this point, but The First Omen is refreshingly better than any in quite a while. A few notches cooler than The Omen remake of 2006, this prequel satisfies as a period film. The demonic special effects get the high-budget Disney treatment, offering technology's most frightening images of The Beast.
