Elf is a family movie that is pretty funny for adults. Favreau's big budget career starts here, where stop-motion animations, hand-made sets, and witty deadpan humor sum to a robust seasonal comedy. Ferrel's unpredictable and obnoxious tendencies are well-casted to a human raised in the North Pole returning to the world of muggles. There is probably no Christmas movie as enjoyable since Elf.
