元になった【パリタクシー】は観ていない。
観たいと思う。
鑑賞した席の周りは偶然、
演じる倍賞千恵子さんと近い年齢の方々だった。
(自分よりも20近く上の先輩方)
思わず声が出るリアクションも、
今回に限っては、むしろ好印象。
だが、途中のあるシーン以後、
倍賞千恵子さん演じる主人公に共感できなくなった。
ネタバレになってしまうが、
過去に、私生児を産み、
その後、連れ子を伴って結婚。
だがその相手と色々あり、
子供に対する暴力行為の怒りから
相手の生殖器に熱湯か熱い油(?)をかけ
殺人未遂に問われ、何年か刑務所に。
そこからは、
一命はとりとめたが、生殖機能を失った夫と
当時新聞でも話題になったこの事件の
主人公の息子のその後が気になって
引っ掛かかりながら観ることになった。
気になってもとの【パリタクシー】のあらすじを見たら
元の話も夫にした行為は同じか・・・・。

夫は生殖機能と社会的な立ち位置を失い、
子供は、犯罪者の息子というラベリングで、
想像を絶する扱いを受けたことは容易に察しがつく。
終わりよければ~なのかもしれないけれど、
元夫と子供にも人生は続くわけで。
手放しに良かったとは思えない映画だった。
I haven’t seen the original film A Paris Taxi.
I’d like to.
By chance, the seats around me were occupied by people around the same age as Chieko Baisho, who plays the lead—folks easily twenty years my senior.
Their spontaneous, audible reactions actually left a good impression on me this time.
However, from a certain scene onward, I could no longer empathize with the protagonist played by Chieko Baisho.
This will involve spoilers, but:
in the past, she gave birth to a child out of wedlock,
then later married, bringing that child into the new household.
Various things happened with her husband, and in a rage over his violence toward the child,
she poured boiling water or hot oil (?) over his genitals,
was charged with attempted murder, and spent several years in prison.
From that point on, I watched with a constant snagging feeling, preoccupied with what became of the husband—who survived but lost his reproductive function—and of the protagonist’s son, after this case that had once been talked about in the newspapers.
Curious, I looked up the synopsis of the original A Paris Taxi,
and it turns out she commits the same act against her husband there as well…
(in the original, it’s with a gas burner).
The husband loses both his ability to have children and his place in society,
and it’s easy to imagine the son, branded “the child of a criminal,” being subjected to treatment beyond anything we’d care to picture.
Perhaps you could say “all’s well that ends well,”
but the ex-husband and the child also have lives that go on.
I just couldn’t see it as an unqualified “good” film.
